For many November isn't simply the beginning of winter, instead it's a month of facial hair in the form of Movember.

A time to reflect on men's health and raise awareness, one of the most recognisable symbols of Movember is the moustache.

If you are considering taking part in Movember this year, we've put together a guide on everything you need to know about prepping and grooming your new facial hair.

Get Movember-Ready

The rules of Movember state that you need to begin the month of November with a clean-shaven face.

If it’s been a while, start off by trimming any long facial hair using the King C. Gillette Beard Trimmer, to prevent any longer hair from getting tangled in your razor.

Then, lather your face with our King C. Gillette Transparent Shave Gel, before starting to shave with the grain (make strokes with your razor in the same direction that your hair grows).

You can find everything you need to get Movember-ready in our King C. Gillette Beard Trimmer & Double Edge Razor Styling Kit.

Find Your Movember Style

Once you’ve removed your facial hair, it’s time to start growing your mo’ to support your bros. Ask friends, family or social media followers to sponsor you, and you’ll be raising money for the causes Movember supports, which include men’s cancers and men’s mental health.

As your moustache grows, you’ll soon get an idea of your Movember style. It might grow short and stubbly, meaning a style such as the pencil moustache could soon be yours.

If your facial hair grows at a much faster rate, you could well be ending the month with a quirky handlebar moustache. Use a little beard balm to style the ends of your handlebar to get those signature curls.

What Grooming is Permitted in Movember?

Remember that you need to keep your beard clean-shaven during Movember, so keep up with the shaving routine we outlined above, finishing off your morning grooming with a touch of our King C. Gillette Moisturiser.

What Happens After Movember?

There’s no commitment to keeping your moustache once Movember is over; you might want to grow a beard to accompany it, or you may want to go back to being completely clean-shaven - it's entirely up to you.

If you’re planning to shave more regularly again, sign up for one of our Gillette shaving subscriptions to make sure you’ve always got a fresh supply of razor blades to hand.

If you want to get back into the habit of shaving more regularly as an act of self-care and to make yourself feel a little smarter each day, even if it’s just for your virtual meetings, you might want to treat yourself to the ultimate grooming tool.

The GilletteLabs Heated Razor is designed to deliver a warming shave from the comfort of your own bathroom, meaning you can enjoy the wonderful sensation of soothing heat every time you shave. After months of neglecting your grooming routine, we can’t think of a more luxurious return.

Spread awareness, raise money and rediscover having fun with your grooming routine this Movember. Refamiliarise yourself with the rules here:
